Marilyn Monroe LOT (x2) Korean War ARMY Plaque and Black Slip Dress READ

We believe the provenance of these items presents a strong case for authenticity. ITEMS Listed for sale in this lot is a pair of items we believe were owned by Marilyn Monroe.

The first items is a wooden plaque issued by the US War Department to Marilyn Monroe thanking her for service to the Army. The second item is a black nylon slip. PLAQUE The wood plaque has a period accurate War Department emblem at the top of the crest. The wood, age and engraved plate and hardware all appear to be period accurate (mid to late 50's). I believe the black felt was added sometime later. The plaque states Presented to Marilyn Monroe by the Department of the Army for her Entertainment of U.

In January 1954 Marilyn Monroe, having just married Joe DiMaggio of the New York Yankees, went to Korea to perform for the Army. She was there for four days and performed for an estimated 100,000 troops. I believe this plaque to be authentic.

Not just due to age, but the provenance as well, detailed below. The age, materials and manufacturing technique signal authenticity to me. I believe somewhere in either the US War Department archive or paperwork somewhere, there is a record of this plaque being given to MM.

It would take some digging, but I feel VERY CONFIDENT in there being some record of this, somewhere. BLACK SLIP This is a black rayon slip manufactured by Carter's Du Pont made of Nylon in an 11 Junior Figure. This has a 26" waist is 35" long from strap to skirt and a 46 skirt.

Its in great shape and is also period accurate. I was not able to photo match this. I've priced this lot based primarily on the plaque but wanted to include this as well as it came from the same collection and was displayed with the plaque. Articles mention the name of a Hollywood Agent and the store "Star Wares" which this man was credited as having owned/started. The business was described as having been a retail location to sell movie memorabilia.

This man was featured many times in local and state newspapers and television shows about his collection. This man was a pillar of his community and many civic positions.

At some point in the early 90s he donated a small portion of his collection to a local museum. Items in this collection included more than a dozen screen matched original costume and props from movies like TAPS, King Kong, Blade Runner, Mask and more. It also included museum quality early wooden cameras and silent film projectors and an extensive movie and film book collection. All we can say is the collection was INCREDIBLE and based on the quality and quantity of the other items and the historic record on the original owner, we feel VERY CONFIDENT in the authenticity of these items. However, based on our not being able to find confirmation, they are listed at what we believe is a discount, hoping someone will be able to locate a record.
